Testimonials What Others Have To Say (Also see comments left on our Barclay's Take One Small Step Business Competition Entry )

Mr John Christophers - Associated Architects - Birmingham

"We installed an Ecoflap on our Zero Carbon House, see HERE and HERE.

It has worked very well and enabled us to achieve an overall Q50 airtightness of 0.97 and N50 airtightness of 0.34. For the non-technical this betters Building Regulations by more than 10X!"

David Jones

I do think the Ecoflap is a tremendous product. I wasted money on "traditional" alternatives before and since installing the Ecoflap at Christmas we've noticed our hallway is warmer than before and we never come home to find heat disappearing through an open letter box with letters stuck half way through it.

As a cat owner I'd potentially be interested in a bettercat-flap as at the moment the draughty one we have makes a mockery of our sealed unit double glazed door which cost a great deal of money to install. To be really successful your replacement would need to be compatible with the existing shape of cat-flap to allow upgrades from existing units. Good luck for the future.

Recently purchased one of your Ecoflaps, for my elderly parents and we are absolutely delighted with it! I will sing its praises to everyone I know!! In fact, I'm pretty certain I will be
purchasing one as well before too long....However there is the potential for the outer letterbox flap to catch on the Ecoflap, as described on your website, in relation to thin doors. You say that a "widget" is available to overcome this problem. I would be very grateful if one could be dispatched to me.

The Ecoflap works particularly well over a very unevenly cut hole in the front door. Any "standard" draught-proofing device just cannot cope with anything that isn't a regular size! It is so well designed & produced.
Extremely prompt customer service throughout and such an informative & helpful website.

Berry Ritchie - Richmond. Surrey

"I recently purchased a white Ecoflap from you, which has proved such a success that I would like to order another, also white, for a friend..............."

Noel and Pat Mitchell - Norfolk

The Ecoflap has fitted easily over our larger than average letter box opening after recessing the bolts as you advised and then following the very clear instructions.  Perhaps this snippet of advice could be added to what is already the most complete and informative product website we have ever come across.  We haven't been able to test the draught proofing in a strong wind, but it has already eliminated all air movement in normal conditions.  Also, our rather fussy postman hasn't noticed any change from the outside!  Congratulations on a good product, informatively sold and backed-up by outstandingly good customer care.

Richard Croucher Review - Poole, Dorset

It is now some 8 months since our last communication on this matter and the recent months have provided some rather suitably cold weather which has enabled a better indication of how the Ecoflap is behaving... I have fitted thermostatic controls to most of the radiators in this house; the latter has definitely improved the overall house comfort and effectively reduced the heat wasted from the near to front door/passage radiator - this now tends to be effectively OFF for much of the time after a reasonable background temperature has been reached. The Ecoflap is certainly working well and the way " the close" radiator  controls behave, tends to confirm this well.
As an indication of temperature differences inside to out - we have an old fashioned (pre 1900) solid wood front door with a number of single glazed panels above waist height and this is surrounded by a casement of approx. 200mm - much of which is also glass. This is set back within an open porch and faced almost due north. In the recent cold weather condensation on the inside has been pooling in various places but not in the Ecoflap area.....

Steve Bryson - Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

"...It looks like it will do the trick very well, and cover the jagged hole inherited..It's an effective and good quality product."

Barry Sideaway - Ely, Cambridgeshire

"The Ecoflap arrived in record time the following day.......overall I think it is a great product which lives up to it's claims and reviews thank you. The product seems very strong and durable....I have to say that customer service is second to none. Can you please persuade Richard to develop a similarly robust flap for the outside?......."

Just fitted my ecoflap, took me about five minutes, fantastic product, well done! I teach Environmental Science and I will be showing this one to the kids and putting it in our energy efficiency display for parents to see on open evening. Thank you

Peter Caske - South Tawton, Devon

"Thanks for the (very prompt) delivery of my Ecoflap, just installed in ten minutes.
Not cheap, but I'm delighted with it -- particularly the fact that the indoor face is set back far enough from the door not to foul the outside letter flap, which opens inwards and used to snag the draught brushes previously installed on the interior side.
That, for me, was the deciding feature in making the purchase, and might be something to consider highlighting in future publicity.
Good luck with this excellent product..."

Louis Cantor - Portland USA

"Received the well wrapped white Ecoflap that I ordered. Compliments on the elegant simple design. However, I found no screw caps anywhere in the package. (Editor -"well this is embarrassing") Please forward so I can install soon. Thank you."

Rikki Khare - Middlesex

"We absolutely love the ecoflap, the hallway has never been warmer!"

Backtrack....comment found on world wide web from "Rex" 2008 when Ecoflap was a prototype

"I saw this at the Ecobuild Show earlier this year (2008) and I thought it was brilliant. Unfortunately at that time, they were still looking for manufacturing partners. Simple, elegant design, no springs, no hinges, just gravity operation, always closes, wonderful....We are a long way off needing one, but may consider ordering for the stockpile".

Editor's Note: "On the market now Rex"

Nick Raine - Bristol

"The product has been fantastic-really keeps the draught out ..."

Debbie Squires Customer Service Advisor. United Sustainable Energy Centre -Milton Keynes

"Thank you for sending the item so quickly. I fitted the letterbox on Saturday morning it only took 5 minutes to do. Well impressed with The paper boys don’t have any more problems with the brush getting stuck It looks very tidy as well. Most important no draughts. Many thanks"

M. Fletcher West Coast of Scotland

"I bought my Ecoflap the beginning of April. I live on the West Coast of Scotland and we get our fair share of strong winds and rain. The letter plate on my door was an inward opening spring-loaded type and despite brushes being fitted inside the door, wind and rain found its way onto the floor inside in bad weather. Fitting a new letter plate of the upward opening flat type and my new Ecoflap at the same time, produced the success I had hoped for. I fitted Ecoflap in no time at all, ran a bead of clear sealant around the underside of the letter plate (outer) and that was it - wind and weather proof! I am so pleased with my Ecoflap's performance. No springs to sag or snag and it copes with a fairly thick bundle of letters and magazines held with the rubber band that my postman likes to shove through. Only on the second mail deliverythrough the Ecoflap did he fail to push my mail through with sufficient zing and the mail was left hanging through the Ecoflap at the back. he's got the hang of it now and the mail shoots through and allows the Ecoflap to close properly. Wonderful!! A great product - every door with a wind and rain issue should have one!"

Mr Paul Madden

"Best wishes with your product it is simply great!"

"Donty" found on Green Building Forum - Wales border

"Our house is on the borders of England/Wales, on a hill, very well insulated, faces south, has solar hot water and underfloor heating. We use passive solar in a large full height/width conservatory. It works well, but the main problem for us has been the winds blowing heating away from the exterior and draughts blowing the heat out through the house (the house is not an air tight design). Standard brushes, seals and well made windows and doors haven't removed the problem.

After reading the review on the Low Carbon Economy site, I decided to try an Ecoflap, I dont want a box bolted down outside with locks and keys to lose.

So far I'd give it top marks. Cutting the draught from the letter plate was not something I had thought would be that much of an issue but it is certainly feels warmer, especially in the evening. It does seem to have made a difference to air flow generally not just at the door, but that might be subjective!

It's too early to tell how much of it reflects in heating bills or energy use but I reckon that the Energy Saving Trust should be given one of these to review and ...as there is no advice given on draughty letter boxes - (infact no mention of letter boxes at all as I can see on the advisory page) - maybe they should add it to their advisory pointers for keeping a home free of draught. I suppose for people here it's a foregone conclusion that letter boxes can be a problem, but as there has been nothing on the market to effectively combat draughts through letter boxes perhaps it wasn't worth their while mentioning it?

**Ecoflap: send them a free unit and let's see what they make of it! The real numbers behind any efficiency/savings would be interesting to see. I wonder if there is any chance of other tests being done to give some support the claims? Though it didn't stop me buying one as the cost/benefit (and incidentally the fitting) was a no-brainer!"

Mr Russ Kopp. USA

" Since talking to Richard I have since come into possession of your Ecoflap product and consider it a wonderful ingenious product.........." (slight modification suggestion for American letter slots) -

P Wallace North. Somerset

Here's my review below and thanks again for allowing me to use this prototype.

"We have had the stainless steel ecoflap installed for 2 weeks now and in that time there’s been torrential rain and howling gales.  It has performed really well, it’s silent even with strong winds and I’ve found no trace of moisture within the letter plate. Although what has impressed me most is the ease of use for large postal items and the fact that as it has no sprung hinges my fingers have been spared from injury!   I should also comment that the minimalist styling works well with my contemporary external door."

"As an Architectural Technologist - I revel in innovative products for the built environment. Your product is so simple - yet absolutely brilliant (and already my old drafting door is improved!)..........."

Simon Knight - Cambridgeshire

“The design is a very elegant and simple solution to a difficult problem, it copes well with the Cambridgeshire windy conditions and varying mail size, I can’t wait to see the finished off tool product”
